If you become unemployed, you are eligible for a free-of-charge health check-up for the unemployed with a public health nurse. The objective of the health check-up is to promote your health and well-being as well as your working and functional ability during your unemployment. The health check-up will provide you with a comprehensive picture of your overall health. You should book an appointment for the health check-up within three months of becoming unemployed.

It is especially important to undergo a health check-up if

• you are worried about some aspect of your health
• it has been several years since your last health check-up
• you are aware of factors that could affect your ability to work.

The health check-up includes

• basic health examinations based on laboratory tests and various indicators
• the updating of information on your vaccinations
• a survey of your health habits and lifestyle
• guidance on making daily choices that promote your overall health
• if necessary, referrals to additional examinations and other support services relevant to your life situation.

In the Porvoo region, financial and debt counselling is available by appointment from Itä-Uudenmaan oikeusaputoimisto (eastern Uusimaa public legal aid office).
