Art exhibition PROTECTORS OF THE PAST

  • 30.11.2024
  • 10:00 - 17:00

On 30 of November to 31 of December 2024, Katariina Souri’s oil paintings are on display at Galleria Maari.

”A person not connected with his/her tribal community, who nowadays often no longer has a strong connection to his own family or village community, is left helplessly alone, especially in insecure times.

Myths and mythologies, as well as communal stories and the history of one’s own family, have tied individuals to the unbroken chain of the past and intergenerational lines. Deep roots offer a person security, as well as an opportunity for growth and flourishing.

Mythical creatures and distant ancestors help us to look at the modern world from the depths, and to better understand the natural cycles of life and death that are vital to the balance of nature.

I hope that my works can provide strength and courage to overcome the challenges of a time of great turbulens and insecurity, and remind us that we are always surrounded by the protectors of the sacred space.”

Katariina Souri (formerly Kata Kärkkäinen) born in -68 is a writer, screenwriter and visual artist. She lives and works since 2005 on her tradition farm in Sipoo, together with her two guard dogs, a cat, sheeps, chickens and a rooster.
