Porvoo Jazz Festival: Seppo Kantonen Trio

Seppo Kantonen Trio performing at the Art Factory Taidehalli marks pianist Seppo Kantonen‘s return to the traditional piano-bass-drums trio.

The lineup has been regularly rehearsing since the beginning of 2023 and will continue in the same manner throughout the year. The band will tour extensively in Finland in 2024. ”

The lineup started rehearsing my new composition material at the beginning of 2023. The band’s expressive language is somewhat free but based on composition. In my opinion, I have only recently found a mix I like between consonances and dissonances. Markku Ounaskari‘s beautiful drum sound and Antti Lötjönen‘s rhythmically strong bass, both of which are also sensitive and quick to react to new situations, support the mood of my songs. All in all, in my opinion, the trio’s pursuit of clear expression is the most descriptive characterization,” Kantonen describes.
