PORVOO JAZZ FESTIVAL VOL. 12 Porvoo Jazz Festival is held in the center of Porvoo for the twelfth time! This year, the festival will take place over four days. On Thursday 26.9., the festival opens with a solo concert by Pauli Lyytisen at Porvoo Art Factory, where attendees can also enjoy an exhibition by the artist group “Voi veljet.” On Saturday, the renowned Seppo Kantonen Trio will be heard at the Art Factory! Seppo Kantonen TrioaThe festival’s closing concert in collaboration with the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra will also take place at the Art Factory.

At the heart of the events is the historic WSOY House located on the edge of the old town center.

In Porvoo Jazz Festival’s cozy cultural home base, Vanha 123, the audience will once again have the opportunity to experience two concerts with one ticket. At Vanha 123, an interesting and current lineup will be seen; on Friday, two quintets will perform, the Joonatan Henriksson Quintet which won the inaugural Taimi Prize launched by the Finnish Jazz Federation, and the German-Finnish-American band Expand starting their album launch tour from Porvoo. ExpandOn Saturday, the Danish-Estonian Karmen Roivassepp Quartet will take over Vanha 123 with Tatu Rönkkö and Kalle Kaliman’s duo Lampen. Following tradition, Porvoo Jazz Festival will once again take over an abandoned space this year. The pop-up venue next to Vanha 123, the former entertainment center Punainen Pantteri, –has aptly been named Vanha Pantteri to honor the site’s history. Five concerts will be held there during the festival. Friday kicks off with the locally talented Nuoret Kyvyt concert,launched last year in collaboration with the Borgå Music Institute. Late on Friday, the audience will enjoy the prominent voice in domestic indie music, Arppa with his jazz band. Late on Saturday, the long-running group DalindéoDalindéo will entertain with their psychedelic surf-influenced jazz in conjunction with the release of their sixth album. Henna ja Supersankarit.

On Sunday, Henna and the Superheroes will perform a children’s concert filled with rhythms and joy. On Saturday at Vanha Pantteri, the festival’s novelty of the year will take place: Jazz + Ping Pong w/Born2Bingo! Featuring the catchy Danish organ-drum duo Born2BingoaBorn2Bingo as the house band, accompanying jazz musicians in a ping pong competition. The results of the mini-tournament will determine how the show continues on stage!

Porvoo Jazz Festival is a warmly organized event that focuses on quality and an intimate festival atmosphere with a bohemian touch. We don’t take jazz too seriously but rather want the audience and artists to have a pleasant and atmospheric experience. Interactivity is also important to us at our events, and we aim to bring the most current and carefully selected jazz closer to touch.

Porvoo Jazz Festival has been held in the fall since 2013. At the heart of Porvoo’s city center and the year-round organized Porvoo Jazz Clubs stands the renovated Cultural Venue Vanha 123. The old cinema, with its three cozy lounges and two bars, is perfect for creating a setting for concerts where the audience becomes part of the experience.
