Urban planning is all about communication

Apart from the old, fine pine trees, the Edelfeltinranta area looks nothing special to the layman's eye. Instead, Porvoo's urban planning manager, Jarkko Lyytinen, sees through a grey spring day to the future, where Edelfeltinranta will be a pleasant and ecological residential area by the sea for 300 new residents.

Preparation of the area’s new site plan began in 2021. The three latest versions of the plan will soon be available for comment by residents and decision-makers.

“As a seaside residential area, this will be very attractive,” says Lyytinen.

Porvoo’s urban planning is guided by the city strategy, long-term land use plan, and climate strategy. Consequently, climate-smart and carbon-neutral have been keywords in the Edelfeltinranta site plan. According to Lyytinen, constant dialogue is important in planning.

“We do our work for the people living in the city. The dialogue must be smooth and continuous.”

The working group Luca de Gol and Emilia Saatsi were responsible for preparing the plan for Edelfeltinranta in the city of Porvoo.
